Summer breeze. Blue sky. June 1988 was when Kang Joohyuk and Joo Ahyoung met, almost instantly falling in love with one another. They had just started college a few months earlier and were looking for friends at the same time. A mutual friend of theirs introduced them at a party, figuring the two could get acquainted as they were both studying Marine Biology. Fast forward a month and they began being known as The Nerdy Couple, Ocean Lovers, Moby Dicks, anything you could think of. By the time they had finished college in 1992 they were engaged, a year later they were married and in 1994 they were having their first child they would called Jihyun.

As they had only just started their careers in marine biology a couple years ago, they weren’t drowning in money but they had enough to take care of their child and live in a nice apartment on Jeju Island. After spending the first year of her life contemplating whether or not they wanted to homeschool her, the couple decided they didn’t want to rob her of her childhood by taking her with them to work, so Ahyoung’s sister came to live with them and essentially raise Jihyun. This would establish a very close relationship between the aunt and niece, something in between sisters mixed mother and daughter. Miyoung, Jihyun’s aunt loved to teach her new things. Watching Disney movies after she picked Jihyun up from nursery school was a normal thing they did, deciding their favorite movies were Mulan and Aladdin.

Once Kindergarten started, Jihyun was three years old and excited to be around more kids that she could now communicate with and remember. Just like Jihyun, they shared the love for Disney movies and she could spend their playtime talking about how pretty Princess Jasmine was or how cool Mulan was. Every day after school, she would have so many stories to tell her aunt who would be completely amused by how excited the little girl. But with all this excitement came sadness when Miyoung realized that she had given up her young adult life to raise her sisterâ€™s child. It wasn’t that she didn’t enjoy it, but she wished that she had gotten to experience things that her sister did when she was her age.

The sadness was kept at the back of Miyoun’s mind as she continued raising Jihyun, she didn’t want it to get to her and she end up leaving Jihyun in the hands of someone else who she couldn’t be sure would take proper care of her. Of course, her parents visited them every six months and Jihyun would be really happy to see them but she never felt very close to them in comparison to how close she felt to Miyoung. As a matter of fact, it was probably because all of her birthdays, firsts and beyond were had when Miyoung was there and not her own mother. First period, first boyfriend, first school dance, it was Miyoung who helped her through all of that, and so she figured that she could only truly come to her aunt for major life obstacles.

Their closeness was the deciding factor in where Jihyun would go to college, since Miyoung was never able to attend college. Yonsei University had accepted her, full scholarship and all, but because she was asked to take care of Jihyun she could never go. The decision to pledge ZTA however was all Jihyun’s, because she had gone to all of the rush parties and settled on the house she liked the most. Park Gyuri was the shit, basically.

Patient; Jihyun is known to be a very patient person in anything she does. This as an attribute as to why she gets along with clients so well.

Funny; Quite the comedic relief when needed, Jihyun likes to make little jokes here and there. Her humor ranges from dark and twisted to light and basic, depending on her mood.

Confident; Not that this was always the case, but Jihyun knows in her mind that she is the shit and no one can convince her otherwise.

Loner; When she isn’t partying it up with her sisters, or busy helping someone get fit aside from her classes and extracurriculars, she likes to be be in her room with a giant bucket of popcorn watching romance movies or reading a novel.

Standoffish; Initially when you meet Jihyun, she doesn’st seem like a very nice person and that could be true depending on what kind of person she decides you are upon meeting you.

Caring; From babies to animals, Jihyun’s big heart shines through when she is taking care of them. Her goal is to have a large farm on the countryside where she raises animals but not for food.

Expressive; When she’s completely into a conversation, her facial expressions can be quite humerous. Not concerned with simply looking cute all the time, she has the ability to contort her face in the oddest of ways.
